Deserted Island Discs

Sometimes we ask weird questions about situations that would never happen, like if you could only eat one food for the rest of your life what would it be? Or, the would you rather questions. There are all the deserted on an island questions like what you bring or what would you do? I have heard of the ‘desert island disc’ before, basically, if I was to be trapped on an island with a record player what five records (albums) would I bring with me? As a musician, I am thinking about two dozen albums I love, idolize, and that I jam out too! Being the weirdo I am, I have to address on what desert island would I be deserted island would I be stranded on with electricity to power a record player? Anywho… Albums that are crossing my mind is the movie soundtracks to Great Gatsby (2013) and Perks of Being a Wallflower. I would also like to bring the collective albums of the best works of Elvis Presley, Fleetwood Mac, and Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band. Other complete records that have to be my favorites are the self-named albums of Young the Giants, Bon Iver, or Birdy. Other albums I adore are Kodaline's In a Perfect World, Kesha's Rainbow, Lady Gaga's Joanne, The Killer's Battle Born, Post Malone's Stoney, G- Eazy's These Things Happen and much more. As you can see, I listen to a plethora of music. For I have a radio station called multitude radio. The slogan is 'always playing multitudes of music genres.' I get this from my parent's musical influences and my taste and preferences. My dad is a huge Elvis fan which is how I feel in love with Mr. Presley. Honestly, if I could, I would marry Elvis. I have a wall covered in Elvis related posters, and I have an Elvis song quote tattoo. My dad also listens to Classic Vinyl, 70's, and 60's hits on Sirius radio. I admire him for staying real loyal music. Yes, I do enjoy the rap nonsense of today like all teenagers and EDM (electronic dance music). But, I recognize and know what real music is. My mom is a bit different. Her teenage years were filled with big hair and neon colors. She enjoyed her hard rock n' roll. Now she listens to Bon Jovi and what is popular or 'hot' this week. Those two choices in music have shaped me into the diverse music lover I am today. I also have to be a well-rounded musician to make it in the music industry. Gun to my head I would first bring I would pick Bon Jovi’s latest album This House is Not for Sale. This album has it all, covering every topic and crossing genres. Second would be The Wonder of You: Elvis Presley with the Royal Philharmonic. Although this album was not an Elvis original in the 60s, the lyrics and base music is. The Philharmonic stripped the acoustic and instrumentals and added their orchestra behind his singing. Every new remastered song is magic. It all gives me goosebumps and is my favorite album of all time and will always be! I would also bring with me the soundtracks to my two favorite movies. Both these albums have songs from the 80's to current hits. The Perks of Being a Wallflower album is full of so many feel-good songs; I just have to get up and dance to them when I listen to them! The Great Gatsby album has more somber slow songs about love; sometimes you need a break from the jam out songs to relax. Final two. I'd have to through in my favorite rap album; These Things Happen by G-Eazy. This was the first rap artist I fell in love with and learned every song of his. Usually, I'd like a few of rappers song but never a whole repertoire. For the last, I would pick Lady Gaga’s Joanne. Lady Gaga for her whole career was known for being quite eccentric, out of the box. She wore crazy costumes and stared in provocative music videos. Joanne was the debut of the new Lady Gaga. Clean and poised. This album shows so much growth and is musically perfect. A common theme connects all songs; learning for the past. However, not all the songs are the same. There are ballads, uplifting, and rock n’ roll type songs. It's a great mix. Re-reading this I am just shocked at all the different choices in songs these albums cover. I seem like a bipolar music addict. Let's just hope I never get stuck on an island and never have to pick only five albums to listen to, because there is so much great music out there I haven't touched on!
